Hikes around Bonifacio, between cliffs and maquis
Around Bonifacio, the paths run along white cliffs above a turquoise sea, cross the maquis and lead down to coves where you will meet almost no one. These are our favourites.

The cliff path to the Pertusato lighthouse
The most famous walk: from the top of the town, the path follows the limestone plateau along the cliff edge to the Pertusato lighthouse, at the southern tip of Corsica.
The view over the old town, the cliffs and, on a clear day, Sardinia is spectacular. The path is easy but has no shade at all: allow half a day for the round trip to the lighthouse.
The Bruzzi trail, Delphine's favourite
"It runs along the sea and through the maquis, with beaches all along the way": this is Delphine's favourite hike.
The trail starts at Pianottoli-Caldarello, about 25 minutes from Bonifacio, and follows a jagged granite coast dotted with small coves for a swim on the way.
From Piantarella to Sperone
A short, easy walk, perfect with children: from Piantarella beach, the coastal path takes you in about fifteen minutes to Petit Sperone, then Grand Sperone. Wear your swimsuit.
Getting ready
In summer, set off early in the morning or late in the day: it gets very hot quickly and most paths have no shade.
Take at least a litre and a half of water per person, a hat and good shoes: limestone and granite are slippery.
Stay on the path and away from the cliff edges, which can crumble. On high fire-risk days some areas are closed: check before you go.
